SERRAMONTE CENTER SUPPLEMENTS FUNDING FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS HIT HARD BY RECENT BUDGET CUTS
DALY CITY, CA (July 21, 2004)
– The recent budget cuts in California have affected schools in several ways from cutting curricular programs and after school activities to discontinuing music classes and educational outings. On August 1, Serramonte will kick off its 4th annual "Shopping. . . It’s A Trip" program to assist with funding school field trips hit hard by budget cuts. This unique program awards participating elementary schools with all-expense-paid field trips or cash rewards to offset ever decreasing state funding for educational outings.Schools receive five points for every dollar spent and earmarked by parents, friends or students at Serramonte from August 1, 2004 through December 31, 2004. Customers simply credit the receipts from their purchases to the school of their choice at the Information Booth at Serramonte Center. Schools can win trips to the Aquarium of the Bay at Pier 39, Lawrence Hall of Science, Chabot Space and Science Center, Bay Area Discovery Museum and the San Francisco Zoo.
Serramonte began this program four years ago, and has continually partnered with local educational destinations to give the out-of-classroom experience back to students. Over the past three years, the program has given away field trips to more than 2,100 local elementary school children.
"School field trips really enhance the traditional classroom experience and provide a hands-on way to learn," said Jami Miskie, Marketing Director at Serramonte Center. "We’re thrilled to be able to help send students to these fun educational destinations."
Currently, there are 17 schools participating in this program from San Francisco to San Bruno. San Francisco schools include: Corpus Christi Elementary, El Dorado Elementary, George Washington Elementary, Longfellow Elementary, McKinley Elementary and Sunshine Gardens Elementary. Daly City schools include: Colma Elementary, John F. Kennedy Elementary, Skyline Elementary, Susan B. Anthony and Thomas Edison Elementary. San Bruno schools include: Belle Air Elementary and Monte Verde School. Garden Village Elementary in Colma, Sunset Ridge Elementary in Pacifica, Ponderosa Elementary in South San Francisco and Spring Valley Elementary in Millbrae are all participating as well. Area schools from San Francisco and North San Mateo County serving grades K-12 are eligible to participate.
